Abstract
This article reveals the peculiarities of communication between younger schoolchildren and peers, the main factor in the full mental development of a child. The main and starting point of the modern concept of communication is its interpretation as an activity; the definitions given by many researchers regarding the need of children for recognition and support are analyzed. It was also noted that indicators of interpersonal relationships, the course of interpersonal relationships and the development of a child‘s personality are determined by the substantive features of the joint activities of children in a group. For children of primary school age, communication with peers is identified as an important factor in mental development
