Dogdurbek Chontoev was born on December 10, 1966. He graduated from Kyrgyz State National University (Faculty of Geography) in 1991. He defended his Candidate’s dissertation in 2002 and his Doctoral dissertation in 2014. In 2005, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor, and in 2012, he became Acting Professor. From 1991 to 2007, he worked as a lecturer at K. Tynystanov Issyk-Kul State University. From 2007 to 2012, he served as the Dean of the "Management and Tourism" Faculty at M. Ryskulbekov Kyrgyz Economic University. In 2013, he was Head of the Quality and Accreditation Department at the same university. From 2014 to 2016, he headed the Department of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic. Between 2016 and 2018, he managed the Department of Science under the Ministry of Education and Science. From 2018 to 2024, he was the Director of the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic. Since 2024, he has been serving as the Rector of Jusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz National University.
D. Chontoev has dedicated his scientific career to the study of geography, ecology, tourism, and water resources in Central Asia. He is the author of more than 75 scientific articles, five educational and methodological manuals, and five monographs in these fields. He has completed over ten internships in various countries, including an ecotourism internship in Japan (2005), a tourism internship in Turkey (2012), an ecology and water resources internship in China (2018), and a water resources internship in Kenya (2019), among others. D. Chontoev has made a significant contribution to the study of water resources in Central Asia. His research focuses on water resource management, their rational use, and conservation. He is also known for his studies in ecology and tourism.
