Gulmira Tashtanovna Karabalaeva is a Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, and Head of the Department of Higher School Pedagogy at the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn.
In 1987, she graduated from the Frunze Pedagogical Institute of Russian Language and Literature with a degree in Russian Language and Literature. From 1991 to 1993, she completed postgraduate studies at the Department of Pedagogy of the Kyrgyz National University, and from 2000 to 2002 she pursued doctoral studies at the Department of Pedagogy of the Kyrgyz State University named after I. Arabaev. In 2003-2005, she received additional training in Psychology and Social Work at the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel of the Kyrgyz State Pedagogical University named after I. Arabaev.
She was awarded the degree of Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences in 2016 and the academic title of Professor in 2025. The professional career of G. T. Karabalaeva is associated with the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn and the Kyrgyz State University named after I. Arabaev, where she has held positions as lecturer, senior lecturer, associate professor, professor, deputy dean, deputy director, dean, and head of department.
Her research interests include upbringing and education in higher education institutions, family education, multicultural education, bilingualism and multilingualism, and inclusive education. She has participated in research grants devoted to civic education, scientific and methodological support for the training of PhD candidates in pedagogical fields, the development of innovative and project-oriented competence among university teachers, the advancement of inclusive higher education in the Kyrgyz Republic, and the preparation of future teachers for combating family violence.
G. T. Karabalaeva is the author of more than 185 scientific and educational-methodological works, including articles indexed in RSCI, Scopus and Web of Science, two monographs, the textbook Multicultural Education, and teaching manuals on higher school pedagogy, inclusive education, technologies for developing students’ critical thinking, and other areas. Based on the results of 2024, she was included among the top 15 lecturers of the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn for publications in high-ranking Scopus-indexed journals.
She has completed research internships, professional development courses and training programmes in national and international educational organisations, including programmes of Harvard University, the Baltic International Academy, the Aga Khan Foundation, CRDF Global, as well as educational programmes in Germany, Latvia, Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
For her contribution to the development of science and education, she has been awarded the titles and badges “Excellence in Science” of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic and “Excellence in Education” of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, the title “Honoured Worker of the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn”, as well as certificates of honour from the Bishkek City Hall and universities of Kyrgyzstan.
