Abstract
As an important part of the language vocabulary system, salutations can reflect gender differences. There is a growing debate about whether the word "sir" should be used to refer to a respectable and learned woman. From the perspective of sociolinguistics, the author examines corpora and dictionaries in different periods, and uses the methods of diachronic comparison and semantic field analysis to explore the reasons why some women think that the word "sir" is inappropriate from a female perspective
